Life Aquatic

Last week I watched Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.  It is a wonderfully quirky film and many scenes reminded me of living on a boat [minus their life-threatening adventures all over the world].  The best part was that the Belafonte's crew all wore this adorable red caps:

We were joking that we would all wear them this summer on the boat...that would be interesting :)

Also, my favorite scene is when Zissou gives a tour of his ship, Belafonte...cool ship, right?

We're about to start our own new adventure, for we are officially moving onto our own boat in May.  Clarification, we have been living on a houseboat and now we're taking a leap to an actual boat.  We'll be at Constitution Marina and will have to prepare ourselves for the USS Constitution's twice daily firing of it's canon :)

Come Snow Or Come Shine

It's amazing what a difference a day makes...

Sunrise on Monday morning: Ahhh beautiful!

"Sunrise" on Tuesday morning: Why?!?! (what you can't see in this picture is the incessant rocking)

And here's a little music to cheer you up on a stormy day.  Billie Holiday!

La Mer

I haven't written a blog post since May!  Wow, that's a long time.  In that time I've performed in five shows, started my second year of college, travelled to NYC numerous times, spent time with fabulous family & friends and experienced many wonderful and unforgettable moments on the boat.  Today, March 10, we "spring forward", so I thought it was appropriate to return to this blog.

I've been living on a boat for around a year and a half with my parents and our dog.  I never imagined that I would love living on a boat as much as I do.  Yes, there are moments that are rocky [pun intended], but overall I love every second of it.

Well, except for the time that we had to move our valuables off the boat when Nemo [which is quite ironic] was charging North.  Because of the high winds and history of boats getting severely damaged during storms, we moved items off just in case.  During this process, we felt the wind  picking up and the water was a furious dark blue - and the docks looked like a gigantic roller coaster on panic mode....We literally had to crawl on the dock with our bags wrapped around our shoulders because they were bobbing up and down so much.  It was a lot of fun - to survive it.  Minutes later, we walked off the dock into the lobby of a warm and welcoming hotel, and not a bad way to ride out NEMO.

Spring, however, is approaching and I'm counting down the days to feeling that cool breeze off of the harbor on a warm summer day.  I'm (almost) as excited as Mr.Bean when he sees the ocean in this video:

The Sunset, Ruby, and Sagittarius!

Some sunsets you never want to see pass.  Last night's sunset was one of those.  I was sitting on the deck of our boat with my dog, Ruby, and it was silent...I forgot I was in the city!  The peaceful moment was quickly disrupted, however, when my dog caught sight of the cat, named Sagittarius, who lives opposite us. Sagittarius likes to tease Ruby, she has free range of the marina and Ruby does not, and all Ruby can do is growl and "threaten" her.

"Summertime...Fish Are Jumping"

I'm officially done with my Freshman year of college - how time flies!  Today also marks 10 months that we have lived on the houseboat!

I thought this clip of Billie Holiday singing "Summertime" would be a perfect one to post right now..

I have  met so many wonderful people: at school in Boston and at the marina in Charlestown.  I hope everyone has a memorable, relaxing summer  2012 :)

BTW, Earth Day was last weekend, however, I never posted about it!  I found this quote while driving through my old hometown of Sudbury last weekend.  Pretty on target for a person who lives on a boat, yes?

"What is the use of a house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?" - Henry David Thoreau
